Brisbane lies along the eastern side of Australia and offers an enviable coastal location. Slightly to the south of the city you will find Australia's world-famous Gold Coast, while on the northern side of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast is always a popular spot.

Brisbane Orientation: Layout and Directions

Much of the city of Brisbane is divided by the Brisbane River, which meanders through the centre and is lined with a number of hotels, attractions and other buildings. The southern and western sides of Brisbane stand to the south of the river. On the southern bank of the Brisbane River you will find the Queensland Cultural Centre, which hosts many seasonal events, together with both the spacious South Bank Parklands and the South Bank Markets.

Situated on the northern bank of the Brisbane River, the city centre area is full of places to visit and things to do. Central Brisbane is home to Conrad Treasury House, the Central Station, a number of notable government buildings and the city's excellent Botanical Gardens. A little to the north of Brisbane lies the Spring Hill area, together with Fortitude Valley.
